Students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University blocked the Science Lab intersection around 12:15 PM today, demanding the establishment of an independent university for their institutions. Eyewitnesses reported that the blockade halted vehicular movement in the area. The protest began around 11:00 AM when students gathered on the Dhaka College campus before taking to the streets.

One of the organizers, Nayim Hawlader, stated that they have been facing academic difficulties and session jams due to their affiliation with Dhaka University. Their demands include the immediate formation of a commission to establish the new university, a draft proposal from the commission within 30 days, and assurance from Dhaka University that no session jams will occur until the new institution is set up.
