On Friday, 19 September, a massive rally in support of Palestine took place in Chennai, organized by the Periyar Followers Federation. Thousands joined, including political leaders, social activists, Islamic groups, and notable figures like MP Thol. Thirumavalavan, MLA Thaniyarasu, Jawahirullah, Thirumurugan Gandhi, actors Sathyaraj and Prakash Raj, and filmmaker Vetrimaaran.

Actor Prakash Raj addressed the crowd, calling the gathering a stand for humanity. He criticized Prime Minister Modi and the U.S., saying, “Israel is not solely responsible for the injustice in Palestine. America is responsible. Modi’s silence is responsible too.” Reciting poems about civilian suffering, he added, “To hear the sound of birds, the roar of fighter jets must first be silenced.”

Sathyaraj condemned Gaza attacks as violations of humanity, drawing parallels with Tamil Eelam struggles, where both fighters and civilians were killed. He urged global intervention and UN action, emphasizing that social media amplifies such protests. He added, “If our fame doesn’t serve humanity and freedom, there’s no use being popular actors.”
