Those who plan elections without ensuring justice and reforms are the ones conspiring to delay the electoral process.” He made these remarks during a street rally organized by NCP in the Kapuriya Patti area of Jhalakathi town on Sunday afternoon. Nahid Islam added, “A person was recently killed in Dhaka over extortion using a stone. Those involved in land grabbing, extortion, mugging, and commission-based politics will be ousted by the people of Bangladesh just as they ousted Hasina.” He further said, “An authoritarian regime clung to power for 16 years by force. There is no kind of repression they didn’t inflict on the people. One political party believes that simply holding an election will bring about reform. Hasina also believed the same. Though Hasina has fled from Bangladesh, her system remains in place.” He emphasized that the NCP is working to establish democracy, justice, and a politics that respects the dignity of the youth. NCP’s central member secretary Akhtar Hossain demanded immediate student union elections in all universities across the country. Earlier, NCP leaders and activists took part in a street march through the town. The arrival of central leaders brought a festive atmosphere among party members. The rally saw a large turnout of people. Among others present at the rally were NCP’s senior joint convener Samanta Sharmin and senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara. Before the rally, NCP leaders arrived in Jhalakathi around 4 PM and first visited the Nesarat Darbar Sharif, where they offered prayers at the grave of Hazrat Qayed Saheb Huzur.
