A large shipment of KitKat bars was stolen while being transported to distributors, just ahead of the Easter season, raising concerns about potential shortages for customers. The truck was carrying 413,793 units—around 12 tons—of a new chocolate range when it was stolen on March 26 while traveling through Europe, according to Agence France-Presse.

Nestlé, KitKat’s parent company, confirmed the theft to The Guardian and said it is working with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate the incident.

The truck had departed from a factory in central Italy and was en route to Poland when the robbery occurred. Neither the vehicle nor the stolen chocolate has been recovered, though no one was injured, a Nestlé spokesperson told The Athletic.

In a statement, Nestlé said, “We’ve always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat, but it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate.” The company emphasized that cargo theft is an increasing concern and shared the incident publicly to raise awareness of the growing issue.

The stolen products were part of KitKat’s new Formula One-themed range, introduced after the brand became the official F1 chocolate bar last year. The bars feature designs inspired by race cars while retaining the classic wafer structure.

Nestlé also warned that if the stolen products enter unofficial markets, authorities may still be able to trace them using batch codes assigned to each bar.
