Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has apologized to people affected by shortages of fuel and electricity amid the country’s ongoing energy crisis. He acknowledged that the shortages were creating difficulties for many, including industrial and factory owners.

Speaking at a discussion in Dhaka on Friday to mark the BNP’s 48th founding anniversary, Tarique said the current challenges were partly linked to problems inherited from the previous government. However, he stressed that his government would not use those issues as an excuse and would instead focus on resolving them.

Tarique said the government had drawn up an action plan to address the crisis, though implementing it would take time. He also said the BNP was working to prevent future fuel shortages, even if new global crises arise.
