Student leaders from the July-August mass uprising are planning to form a political party by February 2025 to contest the upcoming general election. The party will take a balanced, non-partisan approach, focusing on key issues like unemployment, economic growth, and national unity. It aims to move away from divisive politics and instead promote solutions driven by a clear agenda, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, especially for women.

The initiative is led by figures from two civic groups—the Jatiya Nagorik Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement—who will continue to operate as pressure groups. Both groups are setting up district and institution-level committees and engaging potential candidates to run for national positions.

The new party seeks to uphold democratic principles, ensuring transparency and accountability, while promoting leadership based on the ideals of the 1947, 1971, and 2024 movements. Members will be required to sever ties with other political parties and commit to honest, transparent politics. Nasiruddin Patwary, convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, stressed the importance of youth-led political forces challenging the current system and creating a new political structure.

Preparations are underway to form a central convening committee and gradually build district and upazila-level bodies ahead of the election. The party aims to unite young leaders, strengthen internal communication, and offer a viable alternative for the political future of Bangladesh.
