Shamima Parveen Shilpi has been appointed as the first female superintendent of police (SP) of the Dhaka district.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Thursday (April 30). According to the notification, she has been posted as the superintendent of police of the Dhaka district. She previously served at police headquarters.

In the same order, the current Superintendent of Police, Md. Mizanur Rahman has been transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Several other SP-level transfers have also been made across different districts of the country.

Officials said the reshuffle was carried out in the public interest and took immediate effect. It is expected that her leadership will further strengthen law and order in the Dhaka district.

A native of Narail, Shamima Parveen joined the Bangladesh Police as an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) on August 21, 2006, through the 25th BCS.

She has served in several important positions, including Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Association. She was also elected as a Central and South Asia coordinator of the International Association of Women Police, representing coordination among 22 countries.

She is married to Rakibul Islam Bokul, member of Parliament from Khulna-3 and whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, as well as the central student affairs secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

During her academic years, she studied at Jahangirnagar University, Savar, and was active in student politics through the university and central units of JCD. She also served as joint general secretary of the Jahangirnagar University BCS Officers Forum for the 2025–26 term.
