Former national cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan, who was elected to parliament on an Awami League ticket, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the party despite its activities being banned following the 24th mass uprising.

In a detailed interview with bdnews24.com, he said he remains committed to the Awami League and has no intention of changing political sides in the future, adding that he has never been involved in switching parties and has always stayed loyal wherever he joined.

Commenting on the current ban, Shakib suggested it cannot be permanent, arguing that political restrictions should not last indefinitely and emphasizing that such actions go against democratic principles. He said no party can realistically keep a large section of the country under long-term control through force.

He also reflected on past political cycles in Bangladesh, noting that if any party has previously tried to suppress opposition, repeating the same approach today would only continue a cycle of retaliation in politics. He stressed that at some point, this pattern needs to end for the sake of national political progress.
