Renowned Bangladeshi photographer and writer Shahidul Alam has appeared in a pre-recorded video claiming that he and others were intercepted at sea and detained by Israeli occupation forces.

In the video, Shahidul introduces himself, saying:

“I am Shahidul Alam, a photographer and writer from Bangladesh. If you are seeing this video, it means we have been intercepted at sea and I have been kidnapped by the Occupation Forces of Israel — the country committing genocide in Gaza with the active support of the USA and other Western powers.”

He called on his supporters, colleagues, and activists worldwide to continue the fight for Palestinian freedom, ending his message with a heartfelt plea for solidarity.

Though the exact location and details of the interception remain uncertain, the video has spread widely on social media, prompting concern and international calls for his safety.

Shahidul Alam, a globally acclaimed photojournalist and human rights defender, is widely known for his decades-long work in documenting social justice movements and advocating for press freedom in Bangladesh and beyond.
