In Sitakunda, Chattogram, a seven-year-old girl was brutally attacked in the dense forest of the Botanical Garden and Eco Park, where assailants attempted to slit her throat. On Sunday, March 1, local workers discovered the child in a bloodied and critical condition. She is currently fighting for her life at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, around 2:00 PM on Sunday, workers were engaged in road construction about 5 kilometers deep into the Eco Park when an excavator operator noticed a blood-soaked child staggering toward the road. The girl’s windpipe had been cut, her clothes were soaked in blood, and she was found without any lower garments.

The rescuers, Rubiul Hasan and Ariful Islam Roni, rushed to help, bandaging her throat with cloth and transporting her to the Upazila Health Complex by truck.

Officials from Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, including Mohammad Altaf Hossain and Dr. Israt Jahan Muhua, reported that the child’s condition is extremely critical. Because her windpipe was slit, she is unable to speak. Based on her injuries and the state of her clothing, medical staff suspect she was subjected to a violent sexual assault. She was immediately referred to CMCH Hospital for advanced treatment.

Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Alomgir Hossain and OC Mohinul Islam stated that the girl had been lured from Kumira into the Eco Park. It is believed that the perpetrators attempted to kill her after the assault, assuming she would not survive.

According to hospital sources cited by the police, the child’s throat had been deliberately cut in an attempt to murder her. After being brought to the hospital, she managed to provide her name and identity with great difficulty. Her family has been informed, and the police are conducting a thorough investigation to take necessary action.
