Saudi media reports that, in preparation for major upcoming international events like Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, Saudi Arabia will allow controlled alcohol sales. This was revealed by the news outlet Turkey Today.

From 2026, the government will introduce a tightly regulated licensing system permitting alcohol sales and limited consumption.

Since 1952, alcohol has been banned in Saudi Arabia for both citizens and foreigners.

The new regulations will permit alcohol sales at about 600 locations nationwide, including five-star hotels, luxury resorts, diplomatic areas, and tourism projects such as NEOM, Sindalah Island, and the Red Sea Project.

This initiative forms part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy by boosting tourism and hosting international events. However, strict alcohol regulations will remain, with sales confined to licensed establishments only.
