National Citizen Party candidate Sarjis Alam has submitted conflicting income and asset details in documents filed with the Election Commission.

In his affidavit, the 27-year-old postgraduate declared an annual business income of Tk 9 lakh, while his 2025–26 tax return shows Tk 28.05 lakh—over three times higher. Both figures are listed separately in the affidavit.

Sarjis, contesting from Panchagarh-1, described himself as a businessman. The affidavit also shows discrepancies between declared assets and the net wealth reported in his tax return. While his tax return lists total assets worth Tk 33.73 lakh, the affidavit’s breakdown accounts for significantly less.

According to the affidavit, Sarjis holds liquid assets of Tk 5.61 lakh: Tk 3.11 lakh in cash, Tk 1 lakh in unspecified bank accounts, and Tk 1.5 lakh in electronic goods and furniture. He also declared 16.5 decimals of agricultural land as “gifted,” with an acquisition value of Tk 7,500 and an estimated market value of Tk 5 lakh.

He paid Tk 52,500 in income tax for the 2025–26 assessment year.

In his election expenditure statement, Sarjis reported expecting Tk 11 lakh in gifts from four non-relative well-wishers and Tk 2 lakh in loans from an individual. He is also listed as receiving gifts from his father-in-law, mother-in-law, and paternal and maternal uncles, though the exact amounts could not be verified because the first digits of some six-digit figures were illegible in the scanned document on the EC website. Based on visible digits, he appears to be receiving at least Tk 1 lakh from each relative. Additionally, he declared a loan of at least Tk 1 lakh from his brother-in-law.

Sarjis also faces one criminal case filed in Gazipur.
