Bangladeshi university rover teams have been making headlines with their achievements in global competitions. This year, three teams—Team Ogrodoot from RUET, Project Altair from IUT, and Team Mongol Barota from MIST—qualified for the finals of the International Rover Challenge (IRC) 2025 in Goa, India. However, their participation was hindered due to mass visa rejections.

Despite being officially invited, all 12 members of Team Ogrodoot were denied visas, while only three members of Project Altair received approval—far below the required team size. Team Mongol Barota did not apply for visas. The rejection left students frustrated, as they had spent months preparing.

Project Altair’s senior member Rodoshe Mou called the decision disrespectful, while team leader Md Emon emphasized the need for inclusivity in international competitions. Team Ogrodoot’s leader S M Shafayet Jamil criticized the lengthy and inconsistent visa process, calling it an excuse for negligence. Co-lead Md Jubair Ahamed highlighted how bureaucratic delays cost them the chance to compete despite months of dedication.

Both teams have strong track records in IRC, with Project Altair achieving top positions in previous years. The incident raises concerns about fair opportunities for international competitors.
