A woman who had booked a ride-share motorcycle from Mirpur 12 to Shyamoli was brutally assaulted after the driver, identified as Shahporan, veered off the designated route and took her to a remote area in Ghorashal, Narsingdi. As the journey began, the driver handed her a helmet, and shortly after putting it on, she began to feel disoriented and lost control over her senses. Taking advantage of her condition, Shahporan drove for hours before finally stopping near a secluded culvert. It was there that he raped her, recorded the horrific act on video, stole her personal belongings, and then abandoned her at the location.

Believing he could flee without consequences, Shahporan left the scene. However, the victim managed to contact emergency services by dialing 999, prompting a swift response from the police. Officers reached the spot, rescued the woman, and immediately admitted her to a hospital for treatment and support.

Within 48 hours of the incident, law enforcement successfully tracked down and arrested Shahporan. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime in court. In light of this shocking event, police have issued a public advisory—especially directed at women—urging them to exercise caution while using ride-sharing services. Authorities warn that predators may exploit these platforms, pretending to be legitimate drivers while posing serious threats to passengers’ safety.
