Legendary actor Prabir Mitra, widely known as the "Nawab of the Silver Screen," has passed away. He breathed his last on Sunday night (January 5) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. Misha Sawdagor, President of the Actors' Association, confirmed the news. Prabir Mitra had been in the CCU for several days, but on Sunday (January 5), his condition worsened, and he was transferred to the ICU.

Earlier on Sunday (January 5), Sony Rahman, an executive member of the Actors' Association, informed RTV about his critical condition, saying, "Prabir Mitra's health has deteriorated, and he has been moved to the ICU. Please pray for him."

On Saturday (January 4), the actor’s eldest son, Mithun Mitra, shared, "My father has been hospitalized for 10 to 12 days. He was admitted on December 22 due to age-related complications, as his body was not getting enough oxygen. Later, he was shifted to the ICU and then to a cabin, but his condition has not improved. It has worsened—there is blood loss, and his platelet count is dropping."

Prabir Mitra was born on August 18, 1943, in Chandina, Cumilla. He grew up in Old Dhaka and was involved in theater from a young age. He first gained recognition by acting in Rabindranath Tagore’s play *Dakghar* during his school years.

In 1969, Prabir Mitra made his debut in front of the camera in the late H. Akbar's film *Jolchhobi*, although the film was released on January 1, 1971. In the early part of his career, he acted in a few films as the lead hero. Later, he gained immense popularity as a character actor.

Throughout his illustrious career, he appeared in more than 400 films, including *Titas Ekti Nadir Naam*, *Jibon Trishna*, *Seyana*, *Jaliat*, *Fariad*, *Rokto Shopoth*, *Charitrohin*, *Joy Parajoy*, *Angaar*, *Mintu Amar Naam*, *Fakir Majnu Shah*, *Madhumita*, *Ashanto Dheu*, *Alankar*, *Anurag*, *Protigga*, *Tarulota*, *Gayer Chele*, and *Putrobodhu*.
