The court has sentenced Sohel Rana, the prime accused in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa Akhtar from Pallabi in the capital, to death along with a fine. The verdict was delivered on Sunday (June 7) by Judge Masrur Salehin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal. After the ruling, Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, expressed his satisfaction, saying he was “100% happy” and fully satisfied with the judgment.

He told reporters that the verdict met his expectations and he is hopeful it will be implemented soon, expressing gratitude to the police, journalists, and the people of Bangladesh for their support during the difficult time. The court found the accused guilty based on all evidence after the hearing began at 11:05 am.

The tribunal completed the trial in just four working days, which legal observers described as extremely rare in such cases in Bangladesh, after completing all legal procedures including testimony and arguments.
