The demonstration, organized by Bangladesh Against Rape and Oppression, took place in the Asadgate area. Protesters marched through Lalmatia before gathering near the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where they burned the adviser's effigy. The protest comes in response to the March 1 attack near the NHA Tower in Lalmatia, where two girls were assaulted. One of the victims claimed they were targeted for smoking, sparking widespread outrage on social media. On March 2, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, addressing reporters, stated, "As you know, smoking in public is prohibited for both men and women. It’s a crime, and everyone should follow the rules. I urge everyone not to smoke outside." He added, "From what I understand about the incident, both girls were smoking when some locals, on their way to prayer, confronted them. The girls then threw their tea at them."
