The commission is set to propose a new pay scale on January 21, which would more than double secretaries’ basic salaries and increase the lowest 20th-grade pay by nearly two and a half times. Implementing this would cost the government an additional ~1 trillion taka. The revision reflects adjustments for current market prices.

Currently, the 20th-grade basic salary is 8,200 taka, proposed to rise 144% to 20,000 taka, with total monthly pay, including allowances, reaching around 42,000 taka. The 1st-grade basic salary of 78,000 taka would increase by 105% to 160,000 taka, bringing total monthly pay, including allowances, close to 300,000 taka.
