Following the incident, both groups went to Bhatara Police Station to file complaints, with each side blaming the other. Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam confirmed to The Business Standard that Sarjis Alam was present at the station, and their statements were under review. A Daily Campus report suggested that Sarjis was injured in the clash, though The Business Standard could not verify this independently. Sarjis later addressed the incident in a Facebook post, alleging that Ahmed Shakil, a "central leader" of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal, and his associates attacked him and his group near the North South University (NSU) entrance. However, he did not mention being injured in his post. According to Sarjis, he was walking near NSU after meeting students from four private universities—NSU, IUB, AIUB, and UIU—when he encountered a group of 10-12 people chanting slogans related to the DU syndicate. Among them was Ahmed Shakil. Sarjis claimed he approached them to listen, but they started insulting the private university students with him. He alleged that most of them were not students but hired thugs. Sensing the tension, he said he asked both sides to disperse and left. However, Sarjis accused Shakil and his group of later attacking the private university students accompanying him, using sharp weapons and targeting their heads and backs. He demanded swift action against those involved. In his post, Sarjis also criticized the Bangladesh Chhatra League, calling it the “Tokai League” and claiming that Chhatra Dal should not adopt similar violent tactics. The Business Standard attempted to contact both Sarjis Alam and Chhatra Dal leader Ahmed Shakil for comments but could not reach them.
