In Barishal city’s Ward No. 9, Rasulpur Char area, a young man named Sohel attempted to rape a female HSC examinee. He began dragging her forcefully, prompting her to scream for help. When her father rushed to rescue her, Sohel attacked and severely injured him.

Hearing their cries, a group of hijras (transgender individuals) from a nearby shelter and prayer space—where a religious event was taking place—quickly responded. They rescued the girl, apprehended Sohel, and handed him over to the police.

Babul Sardar, the victim's father, said the incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Tuesday night. Sohel, known as a local troublemaker, attacked him when he tried to protect his daughter.

Hijras Pakhi (from Patuakhali) and local resident Shanta stated they heard screams and rushed outside to find Sohel assaulting the girl while her father lay injured nearby. They, along with others, caught Sohel and locked him in a room until police arrived.

Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station OC Md. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the girl was rescued by the hijras, who also restrained and handed over the accused to police.

Following a case filing, Sohel was produced in court on Wednesday (July 2) and sent to jail.
