French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will recognize a Palestinian state within months, likely during a UN conference in New York this June. He noted that if this happens, other Middle Eastern nations may follow suit. Several European countries, including France, Ireland, Spain, and Norway, have already recognized Palestine or signaled strong support for Gaza, showing growing global momentum. The Palestinian Authority welcomed Macron’s statement, calling it “a step in the right direction.”

Recognizing Palestine strengthens its international status, allowing it to participate more fully in global forums and present its case at the International Court of Justice. Many Western powers still oppose such recognition, favoring negotiations as the path to a two-state solution. Currently, 147 of the 193 UN member states and the Holy See recognize Palestine as a sovereign nation, representing 75% of the global community.
