The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup due to security concerns. The BCB has held multiple meetings with the ICC regarding the matter, but no resolution has been reached yet. Meanwhile, the situation is taking a new turn.

According to Indian news outlet NDTV, Pakistan may reconsider its participation in the World Cup if Bangladesh’s concerns are not addressed. Following Bangladesh’s decision not to play in India, Dhaka contacted Islamabad. A source said the Bangladesh government sought assistance from Pakistani officials regarding participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup and received a positive response. The source added that Pakistan may reconsider its participation if Bangladesh’s issues remain unresolved.

To address venue-related concerns, ICC Integrity Unit General Manager Andrew Affgrave visited Dhaka on Saturday (January 17) and met with the BCB. Gaurav Saxena, General Manager of ICC Events & Corporate Communications, joined the meeting online, unable to attend in person due to visa issues. Despite the discussions, the BCB remains firm on its decision not to travel to India.

After the meeting, the BCB issued a statement saying discussions were held with the ICC representatives regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup. The BCB formally requested the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka.

The meeting also highlighted the Bangladesh government’s concerns, emphasizing the safety of the team, Bangladeshi supporters, journalists, and other stakeholders.

Additionally, the possibility of changing Bangladesh’s group, including a potential swap with Ireland’s group, was discussed as a way to simplify logistics with minimal disruption. No final decision has been made on this matter.
