Uncertainty surrounding the upcoming T20 World Cup has deepened as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed reluctance to send its team to India due to security concerns. In a show of solidarity, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a strong stance in support of Bangladesh, halting its own World Cup preparations for the time being.

According to Pakistani media outlet Geo Super, the PCB considers the BCB’s decision to refrain from traveling to India as justified and legitimate. Recognizing Bangladesh’s security concerns, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has instructed that all preparations for the tournament, scheduled to begin on February 7, be suspended.

The report also states that if the International Cricket Council (ICC) fails to provide a satisfactory resolution, Pakistan may reconsider its participation in the tournament. Team management has been asked to develop contingency plans, including the possibility of not participating.

A PCB source emphasized that no team should face pressure or threats under the pretext of hosting. Earlier, on January 11, the PCB had expressed willingness to host Bangladesh’s matches if Sri Lanka’s venues were unavailable.

Meanwhile, the BCB had proposed a group swap to resolve the crisis, but according to Indian cricket portal Cricbuzz, Cricket Ireland (CI) refused to change groups, effectively canceling the proposal.

Currently, Group B matches featuring Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, Oman, and Ireland are scheduled in Colombo and Kandy, while Group C matches for Bangladesh, England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy are set in Kolkata and Mumbai, India.

Given the BCB’s hesitation to travel to India, the ICC has instructed a final decision by January 21 and clarified that no schedule or venue changes will be permitted. If Bangladesh ultimately refuses to play in India, Scotland is expected to replace them based on rankings.
