In Syedpur, Nilphamari, nearly a hundred leaders and activists from the banned Awami League and its allied organizations have joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On Sunday night (January 4), they were formally welcomed with flowers at an exchange of views meeting held in Kamarpukur Union. The district BNP president, Abdur Gofur Sarkar, attended the event as the chief guest.

BNP members stated that the mass induction of leaders from the banned Awami League will not only strengthen the party’s organizational base but could also have a positive impact on the upcoming national parliamentary elections.

Commenting on the event, Syedpur district BNP president Abdur Gofur Sarkar said that people are now joining the BNP in protest against the banned Awami League government’s repression and anti-democratic activities. He added that the BNP is the only party capable of restoring the public’s voting rights and democracy. He confirmed that nearly a hundred leaders and activists from the Awami League and its allied organizations officially joined the BNP last night. The exact number will be known once the list is finalized today. Among them, some were expelled members of the banned Awami League, while others had not been active in Awami League politics.
