Amid ongoing discussions and criticism over the recent color change of the Bangladesh Police uniform, a new initiative has been taken to reconsider the design. A fresh proposal suggests bringing back a combination of dark blue and light olive colors.

To implement this, a proposal to amend the ‘Police Dress Rules, 2025’ has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The move was outlined in a letter signed by Additional DIG (Logistics Branch) Md. Sarwar Jahan from Police Headquarters.

According to the letter, under a previous SRO, the uniform was changed from dark gray shirts and dark blue pants to ‘iron color’ shirts and ‘coffee color’ pants. However, this decision received negative reactions from police members at the field level, sparking widespread discussion both inside and outside the force. Later, senior officials reviewed various color samples and finalized new options in consultation with the ministry.

As per the new proposal, Metropolitan Police units will wear light olive shirts, while other units—except APBN, SPBN, SB, CID, and RAB—will have dark blue shirts. In both cases, pants will be ‘TC Twill Khaki’.

Several amendments to the ‘Police Dress Rules, 2025’ have been proposed to make this change effective, and a draft notification has already been sent.

Sources say the change will not create extra financial pressure on the government, as uniform supply depends on existing stock. Authorities have been requested to take necessary steps promptly.
