Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Donald Trump on Monday that he had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize during their meeting at the White House. This comes as the U.S. urges Israel to agree to a ceasefire in its 21-month war with Hamas in Gaza, which has resulted in nearly 60,000 deaths.

Indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas resumed in Qatar after six weeks. While both sides expressed cautious optimism, key issues remain unresolved, including Israel's demand that Hamas be removed from Gaza.

When asked about forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, Netanyahu denied it, saying people should have “free choice” to stay or leave, and claimed efforts are underway with the U.S. to resettle Palestinians elsewhere.

Trump, who recently ordered strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, expressed hope for renewed talks with Tehran and signaled plans to resume military aid to Ukraine, criticizing Putin’s actions.

The meeting also highlighted Netanyahu's praise for Trump’s Middle East efforts, calling his nomination meaningful for Israelis and the Jewish people. Trump is also reportedly being nominated by Pakistan.

Netanyahu will remain in Washington for meetings with U.S. officials as ceasefire efforts continue.
