Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has vowed that her government will not allow the country to slide into political instability like that seen in Bangladesh.

Her comments came amid growing pressure from political parties and youth groups. Speaking at a public event in Kathmandu, Karki criticised repeated calls for the government’s resignation, saying they were undermining stability and governance.

She described the interim administration as operating under “storm-like” conditions, with political parties threatening to withdraw support and small groups of Generation Z activists frequently demanding the government step down.

“What does it mean for a government to resign?” Karki asked, noting that her administration is being denied the time and space needed to function effectively. She said officials face constant verbal attacks and public pressure, leaving the government in a “pendulum-like” state, and expressed concern over growing scepticism among youth regarding the relevance of elections.

“We are committed. Nepal will not become Bangladesh,” she stressed, highlighting the administration’s determination to prevent unrest. Karki also urged the media to acknowledge the mental strain and challenges confronting the interim government.
