Doctors at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery have made history by successfully reattaching one of the severed hands 20 hours after it was recovered, marking a major milestone in the country’s medical sector. The incident took place on November 9 in Tongi, Gazipur, while Tasfin was returning home after playing. A miscreant cut off both of her hands from the palms. She was first taken to Tongi Hospital for primary treatment and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College. The journey from Tongi to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery took more than six hours, and during this time Tasfin lost a large amount of blood. The ideal time window for reattaching a severed limb had already passed. Despite these challenges, a medical team led by Dr. Shariful Islam Sharif, Assistant Professor at the institute, managed to reattach her hand after 20 and a half hours through extensive effort and expertise. These details were shared at a press conference held at the institute on Wednesday (December 3). Specialists stated that successfully reattaching a severed limb after such a long delay is extremely rare in global medical history and the first of its kind in Bangladesh. Expressing her gratitude, Tasfin said, “I never imagined I would get my completely severed hand back. Alhamdulillah, with the dedication of the doctors and the will of Allah, my hand has been restored. InshaAllah, I hope to recover fully now.” Original reporting: https://www.bvnews24.com/health-medical/news/191566 HTML: https://tezzfeed.com/latest-news/national-institute-of-burn-and-plastic-surgery-makes-history-by-reattaching-hands-found-after-20-hours-1764829229415 Bangladesh desk: https://tezzfeed.com/bangladeshi-news.md Agent map: https://tezzfeed.com/llms.txt
