Rumin Farhana said, “Mothers and sisters know that the duck is a symbol of prosperity. I am a candidate for all of you (voters). It is your responsibility to make me win. Spend a day with me, and I will stand by you in happiness and sorrow for the next five years.”
Commenting on her election symbol, she added, “Even my duck will only eat the rice I cultivate myself.”
She said, “Not a single fox should steal my duck. Carefully, you will raise the duck. I have cultivated for 15 years, sown seeds, and harvested rice. If a desert comes during harvest, how would it feel? But it’s fine—my duck will only eat the rice I grow.”
Rumin Farhana made these remarks on Saturday (24 January) afternoon while campaigning in Aminpara area of Shahbazpur Union in Sarail Upazila, Brahmanbaria.
She is contesting the Brahmanbaria-2 seat as an independent candidate, with her election symbol being the ‘duck’.
The seat was left for the BNP-allied party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, which is supporting its vice-president Maulana Junaid Al Habib. Junaid Al Habib is contesting with his party symbol, the ‘date palm tree’. However, rival candidates have been mocking the ‘date palm tree’ symbol as a desert tree since the campaign began.
Rumin Farhana reiterated, “Mothers and sisters know that the duck is a symbol of prosperity. I am the candidate for all of you. It is your responsibility to make me win. Spend a day with me, and I will stand by you in happiness and sorrow for the next five years.”
Besides Rumin Farhana, a total of nine candidates are contesting the Brahmanbaria-2 seat. Across the district’s six parliamentary seats, 48 candidates are competing.
