Jamaat-e-Islami MP Abdul Muntakim has faced criticism after claiming in parliament that he is the “son of a Liberation War martyr” during the budget session on June 14. However, it has since been revealed that both of his parents are alive. His father, Abdul Kader Syedi, and mother, Mosalman Begum, reportedly live with him in Dhala Gach village under Kamarpukur union in Syedpur upazila.

Following the controversy, Muntakim admitted the mistake, saying that incorrect words and information were unintentionally used during his speech and he sincerely apologized.

According to his election affidavit, the Nilphamari-4 (Saidpur-Kishoreganj) MP was born on January 10, 1981—well after the 1971 Liberation War. The document also confirms that both of his parents are living. The inconsistency has sparked widespread discussion and criticism, raising questions about his claim of being the son of a martyr and leading to further scrutiny of the statement made in parliament.
