In Satkhira’s Kalaroa upazila, a tragic incident unfolded when a mother allegedly k*illed her five-day-old daughter after previously giving birth to three girls. The incident took place around midnight on Monday in Raghunathpur village near Kazirhat High School. Police, with the help of locals, recovered the infant’s body from a canal hidden under water hyacinths and detained the mother, Sharmin (32).

Kalaroa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Saiful Islam said that during interrogation, Sharmin admitted to throwing her baby into the canal out of frustration over having another daughter. The child’s grandmother, Khadija Khatun, later filed a case, and Sharmin has been sent to court.
