England all-rounder Moeen Ali has criticised the ICC and raised concerns over the handling of Mustafizur Rahman’s removal from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), following the pacer’s omission from the upcoming IPL season amid ongoing India-Bangladesh tensions. Speaking to bdnews24, Ali said the situation reflects deeper governance issues in global cricket.

Mustafizur was initially bought by KKR for Tk 9.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction but was later released, sparking widespread criticism. Ali said, “I honestly feel the solution might eventually look more like football. You have the World Cup, ICC events, maybe one or two major international series, and then the rest is franchise cricket. The game is already struggling with these issues, and what happened to Mustafizur on top of that makes it even worse.”

Backing the Bangladesh pacer, Ali added that Mustafizur earned his contract through performance and should not be penalised due to broader disputes. “Something is clearly not right. This isn’t just about Mustafizur… it can’t continue like this. These are big problems,” he said. “I feel the worst for Mustafizur… in truth, he’s the one suffering the most.”

Ali also criticised the ICC’s leadership, stating, “The ICC has never really been ideal. Everyone knows who runs things, but nobody speaks up. Everyone has their own agenda, and as long as they’re fine, they don’t care.”
