Mir Arshadul Haque, a former leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On Wednesday at 2:00 PM, he met with BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the party’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, before formally joining the party.

Shayrul Kabir Khan of BNP’s media cell confirmed the news to the press. Speaking to Prothom Alo, Arshadul Haque said he met with Tarique Rahman for over 10 minutes, during which he was impressed by Tarique Rahman’s clear vision and plan for national development. Arshadul expressed his desire to work toward implementing this vision. Tarique Rahman welcomed him, saying, “Let’s rebuild the country.”

After the meeting, Arshadul completed the BNP primary membership form and submitted it to the party’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He added that he will carry out any responsibilities assigned to him and has been asked to work with the youth wing.

Arshadul Haque previously served as NCP’s Central Joint Secretary, a member of its Executive Council, and held positions in the party’s Media Cell, Discipline Committee, and Environment Cell. He was also the chief coordinator for NCP’s Chattogram metropolitan unit. He had received the NCP nomination for the Chattogram-16 constituency in the upcoming national elections. On December 25, he resigned from NCP in support of Tarique Rahman.

A former vice president of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA), Arshadul has been actively involved in campus journalism and various movements and protests during his student life.
