A noble mother from Shariatpur has shown that a mother’s love outweighs all worldly wealth by donating a kidney to save her critically ill son.

Nasima Sultana, headmistress of a government primary school in Uttar Baiksha, Jajira Municipality, donated her kidney to her only son, Nasim Jahan Akash.

The transplant is scheduled for Sunday (May 10) at a private hospital in Dhaka on World Mother’s Day.

Nine months ago, Akash suddenly became seriously ill. After diagnosis, doctors confirmed both his kidneys had failed, forcing him into regular dialysis and a life-threatening struggle. Unable to see her son suffer, Nasima decided to donate her own kidney to give him a second chance at life.

The surgery will be performed at the Center for Kidney Diseases and Urology (CKD) Hospital in Dhaka by renowned urologist and Independence Award-winning physician Professor Dr. Md. Kamrul Islam.

Akash’s elder sister, Brishti, said emotionally that no one can match a mother’s sacrifice, adding that receiving a life-saving gift from her mother on Mother’s Day makes the day unforgettable for their family.

Md. Humayun Kabir, representative of the Jajira Upazila teachers’ association, praised Nasima as a deeply compassionate educator, calling her act an everlasting example of motherhood.

Local social worker Zahid Hasan noted that while many celebrate Mother’s Day online, this mother has demonstrated its true meaning through real sacrifice, offering an important lesson for society.

Sociologists also highlighted that a mother’s bond is the most selfless of all, capable of ultimate sacrifice for her child’s wellbeing. The incident has deeply moved people in Shariatpur and across the country.

Meanwhile, locals have been offering prayers and good wishes for Akash’s recovery, with widespread support and blessings also pouring in on social media.
