Eight years ago, leading up to the 2016 presidential election, JD Vance was a vocal critic of Donald Trump, calling the Republican businessman an "idiot" and "reprehensible," and even privately likening him to Adolf Hitler. However, by July, when Trump selected Vance as his running mate, the Ohio native had become one of Trump’s most loyal supporters. With Trump’s decisive victory in the recent presidential election, Vance, 40, emerged as a key figure in the re-energized Make America Great Again movement. Vance’s shift from a "never Trumper" to a staunch ally makes him a unique member of Trump’s inner circle. Now, just two years into his first term as a U.S. senator, the only public office he has held, Vance is set to become one of the youngest vice presidents in U.S. history.
