In Gopaldi’s Ramchandradhi Hafizia Madrasa in Araihazar, Narayanganj, at least 10 mobile phones were reportedly smashed after students were caught using them secretly.

On Sunday evening (January 11), in the presence of several teachers and students, the head teacher, Hafez Waliullah, broke the phones with a hammer in the madrasa courtyard. A video of the incident went viral on social media.

The head teacher stated that, according to madrasa rules, students are not allowed to use mobile phones. If a student is caught with one, the phone is to be destroyed, and the student may face expulsion. He added that this rule is clearly communicated to parents at the time of admission.

He also mentioned that mobile phones had been confiscated from students several times before, and parents had previously agreed to their destruction.
