Police have arrested 19-year-old madrasa student Shihab Hossain in connection with the rape and suspected forced suicide of a 10-year-old student, Abdullah, in Dhaka's Banasree. Following the incident, Shihab fled the Alokito Quran International Hifz Madrasa but was tracked down and apprehended by Rampura Police at his village home in Bera upazila, Pabna. Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division Police, Muhammad Harun Or Rashid, confirmed the arrest.

The tragedy was discovered on Tuesday night when police responded to reports of Abdullah's suicide. During the initial inquest, officers noticed physical signs of sexual assault, prompting an autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Further investigation and questioning of madrasa officials revealed that Shihab had a history of abuse, having previously targeted four other students. The victim’s mother, Mosammat Tuku Ara Khatun, has filed a formal case against Shihab and an unnamed accomplice under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
