The LPG Traders’ Cooperative Society has announced a halt on the sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders nationwide starting Thursday, January 8. They stated that LPG cylinder supply and sales across the country will remain suspended until their demands are met.

On Wednesday evening (January 7), the society issued a notice to all distributors and retailers nationwide. Earlier that morning, the organization had given a 24-hour ultimatum, presenting six demands including a price adjustment by the commission and a stop to fines.

The notice stated that from Thursday, January 8, all LPG marketing and supply operations in Bangladesh would remain suspended until their legitimate demands are fulfilled. In addition, gas extraction from company plants would also be halted.

Earlier on Wednesday, the LPG Traders’ Society held a press conference at the National Press Club to present their demands. They warned that if their demands were not met within 24 hours, they would stop selling LPG cylinders.

At the press conference, they said that the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) should revise LPG cylinder prices, and authorities should stop harassing distributors and issuing fines.

They declared that if their demands were not met within 24 hours, the sale and supply of LPG cylinders nationwide would be suspended indefinitely, a decision later reinforced through the evening notice.
