A legal notice has been issued demanding the resignation of interim government advisors, filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and businessman Sheikh Bashir Uddin. On Tuesday, November 12, Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Md. Shafiqul Islam Shobuj Khan sent this notice to the interim government’s Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

According to the notice, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Sheikh Bashir Uddin were sworn in as advisors on the evening of November 10. In the wake of Sheikh Hasina’s departure, widely seen as the leader of an oppressive regime responsible for numerous atrocities, the people of Bangladesh had anticipated an impartial interim government led by figures of high integrity, free from controversial associations. However, the inclusion of individuals linked to the previous government in the advisory council is viewed as disappointing and unacceptable. These appointments have raised concerns about the credibility of Nobel Laureate Dr. Yunus’s advisory team.

The notice further requests that, out of respect for the sacrifices made by students and citizens during the July revolution, the advisors resign within three days of receiving this legal notice. The Bangladeshi student and public communities do not wish to see figures benefiting from Sheikh Hasina’s regime or those linked to student casualties included in the advisory council. Having endured 17 years of hardship, violence, and legal charges while standing against an authoritarian government, and courageously joining the anti-fascist student movement even in the face of gunfire over a span of 26 days, I humbly request to be considered for inclusion in the advisory council.
