In Lakshmipur Sadar, businessman Abdul Aziz, acting president of Lakshmipur Banik Samity, forced several people, including elderly individuals, to do sit-ups while holding their ears for eating at eateries instead of fasting during Ramadan. The incident, which took place on March 12, was recorded by journalists and went viral, sparking backlash online.

Eyewitnesses reported that Aziz and his associates, armed with sticks, entered a covered eatery, scolded those eating, and imposed the punishment. Aziz admitted his actions, claiming it was a "precautionary drive" to uphold Ramadan’s sanctity. He justified it by stating that most Bangladeshis are Muslim.

Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jamshed Alam Rana said he was unaware of the incident but would investigate. He added that legal action could be taken if any victims filed complaints.
