Mahbubur Rahman, vice president of the Jubodal’s Daulatpur Thana unit in Khulna, was dismissed after a press release by Nurul Islam Sohail, office secretary of the Jatiotabadi Chatradal (JCD), confirmed the expulsion. The party condemned Rahman’s actions, stating that he violated party discipline, and instructed all members to cut ties with him. The incident occurred after a clash between KUET students and the Jatiotabadi Chatradal. Tensions rose when a campaign by the student wing of the BNP advocating for student politics led to protests from students opposing it. The situation escalated into a violent confrontation near the campus’s central Jame Mosque, with brick-throwing and a chase. Around 30 people were injured during the clash. In response, KUET students held a press briefing later that evening, demanding a complete ban on student politics at the university, justice for the attackers, and the resignation of key university officials, including the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, and the director of Student Welfare. They set a deadline of 1pm on February 19 for their demands to be met, and announced that all classes and exams at KUET would remain suspended until then.
