Journalist Mehedi Hasan Sagar has reportedly been arrested while authorities attempted to apprehend a Chhatra League leader identified as a suspect in a case related to an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement. He was taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on the evening of October 31 in the Kakrail area of Dhaka. Sagar is a photographer for the national daily Dhaka Tribune and collaborates with international news agencies, including the Associated Press (AP).

Sagar's arrest is linked to a vandalism case from July 15 during the anti-discrimination student movement at Dhaka University. At the time, he was covering the open-top bus parade of Bangladesh's SAFF-winning women's football team as part of an official assignment. According to the case statement, he is the 134th accused and was previously the Information and Research Secretary of Mujib Hall's Chhatra League before transitioning to journalism.

Although both the accused and the arrested share the same name and are from the same department and academic session, the individual named in the complaint serves as the Organizational Secretary, while Sagar, the photojournalist, left politics to pursue his career in journalism.
