Dr. Yunus received a formal guard of honor, and both leaders held in-depth discussions on a wide range of mutual interests. Following the meeting, a joint press release announced the signing of several key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These include development policy loans supporting economic reform and climate resilience, and Phase 1 of the dual-gauge double rail line between Joydebpur and Ishwardi. Japan will provide a total of USD 1.063 billion—USD 641 million for railway infrastructure and USD 418 million for development policy loans. In addition, Japan pledged USD 4.2 million in scholarships for Bangladeshi students. Prime Minister Ishiba reiterated Japan’s strong support for Bangladesh’s interim government, particularly its reform initiatives and peaceful political transition. Dr. Yunus expressed gratitude for Japan’s continued backing of Bangladesh’s sustainable development goals. The leaders also emphasized enhancing cultural exchanges, developing skilled human resources, and strengthening people-to-people ties. Prime Minister Ishiba commended Bangladesh for sheltering Rohingya refugees from Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Dr. Yunus thanked Japan for its humanitarian support to Rohingyas in Bhasan Char and welcomed Japan’s continued commitment in this regard.
