A Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Anwar Ullah (76), was murdered in his residence in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. He served as the Vice President of West Rajabazar Ward under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar South Police Station in northern Dhaka. Originally from Comilla, he was a homeopathic doctor and teacher by profession and lived with his wife on the second floor of their flat. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, and as of Tuesday evening, no case had been filed.

CCTV footage shows two individuals cutting through the balcony and a room window grill to enter the flat. They were seen leaving approximately two hours later. Police and the CID Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the site.

According to family members, the intruders tied the hands and feet of Anwar Ullah and his wife before killing him. They reportedly stole 8 tolas of gold and BDT 500,000 in cash, suggesting a premeditated attack. Anwar Ullah was known locally as a compassionate doctor.

The victim’s son-in-law, Md. Shamsuddoha, said his mother-in-law informed him around 5 a.m., and he found Anwar Ullah unconscious, with a scarf wrapped around his neck. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Rubayet Rakib prepared the postmortem report, noting injuries on the forehead and right knee. The report states that the assailants tied his hands and gagged him before killing him. The incident is under further investigation by Tejgaon Zone Police Assistant Commissioner Akkas.
