The expulsion was confirmed in a statement issued yesterday, three days after the incident. The statement, signed by Mohammad Ullah, Assistant Secretary of Jamaat’s Chattogram Metropolitan Unit, condemned the act, calling it "unexpected and deplorable." It clarified that Jamaat had no prior knowledge of the protest held in front of the Chattogram Press Club on Wednesday, nor did it authorize any member to attend. "This unfortunate incident is the sole responsibility of those present. Akash Chowdhury participated without permission and his actions are completely unacceptable," the statement read. It emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami, known for its discipline, does not condone such behavior and aims to build a responsible and welfare-oriented society. The protest, organized by the Democratic Student Alliance—a coalition of left-leaning student groups—was attacked around 3:30 PM in the Jamal Khan area under the banner of the "Anti Shahbagh Union." Twelve individuals were injured in the assault.
