A tragedy occurred during Sunday’s El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona when Igal Brodkin, a 50-year-old Israeli and devoted Real Madrid fan, collapsed in the Santiago Bernabéu stands shortly after Kylian Mbappé missed a penalty that could have made the score 3-1. Witnesses reported that fans urgently called for help while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois tried to get the referee’s attention, but the game continued. Medical personnel quickly attended to Brodkin before he was rushed to La Paz hospital, where he sadly passed away hours later.

Brodkin’s son shared that his father had been a lifelong Madrid supporter who passed on his passion to the whole family. To honor his memory, fans plan to hold a minute of silence and a memorial before Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool on Tuesday.
