Syria is in chaos, with President Bashar al-Assad fleeing the country and most territories now controlled by rebel forces. On Sunday, Israeli troops entered Syria with tanks, marking the first time in 50 years that Israeli forces have crossed into Syria in this manner. Israeli tanks reportedly crossed the border fence into the Golan Heights area, which Israel claims is a buffer zone, though it lies within the disputed region of the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967.
On November 26, the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched a new offensive against Assad's forces, quickly advancing after capturing Aleppo. Within 11 days, the rebels declared Damascus "liberated," signaling the end of Assad’s 54-year authoritarian rule. Rebel groups claim Assad fled Damascus on a private helicopter, a fact confirmed by international media outlets.
This marks a critical moment in Syria’s ongoing conflict, with shifting control and international involvement, including Israel's strategic interests in the Golan Heights. The White House has also issued a statement in response to the developments.
