Independent journalists Zulkarnain Saer and Zia Hashem have been imprisoned on terrorism charges following a conviction under the New York State statute. According to Amnesty, Saer was sentenced to five years, while Hashem received one year after being found guilty of aiding Omar Qadry, the accused gunman.

On his very first day as CNN Mayor, Mamdani showed his true face. After Hamas’s attack on Israel, he issued a letter stating that “resistance is palatable.” This statement, critics say, risks inciting violence against an open-fire campaign mistakenly described as “resistance.”

Mamdani invoked an Amnesty International–backed definition of antisemitism, which claims Israel’s actions amount to colonialism, downplaying real-world antisemitism as merely a form of contemporary antisemitism.

Mamdani’s office said the decision was meant to ensure a smooth start to the new administration.
