The Indian Navy is setting up a new base in the Bay of Bengal against the backdrop of increased Chinese naval activity and shifting regional security dynamics involving Bangladesh and Pakistan.
According to senior defence sources cited by India Today, the facility will operate as a naval “detachment” tasked with deploying smaller warships. The base will utilise the existing Haldia dock complex, enabling swift operational readiness with limited new infrastructure, including a dedicated jetty and shore-based support facilities.
