Bangladesh was scheduled to play four group-stage matches in India during the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, due to a significant deterioration in diplomatic relations between the two countries, the status of these matches has become uncertain. Citing security concerns, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has requested the ICC to move their matches out of India. If these matches are relocated, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could face financial losses.

Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman was also set to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL season. However, following BCCI instructions, Kolkata removed him from the squad before the tournament began. After Mustafizur was excluded over security concerns, the BCB has expressed reluctance to send its team to India for the World Cup. The Bangladesh government has also reportedly advised against sending players due to safety risks. Additionally, all IPL broadcasts in Bangladesh have been suspended indefinitely.

According to the Indian cricket website Cricbuzz, the ICC is reportedly open to the possibility of relocating Bangladesh’s four matches to co-host Sri Lanka. If the schedule is changed, India could incur significant financial losses.

Under the original schedule, Bangladesh’s matches were to be held in Kolkata and Mumbai, with Eden Gardens having a seating capacity of 63,000 and Wankhede Stadium 33,000. Combined, nearly 222,000 tickets were expected to be sold for Bangladesh’s four matches, with ticket prices ranging from ₹100 to ₹300.

Under ICC rules, ticket ownership belongs to the ICC Business Corporation. Since the BCCI is only the host board, it would not receive all ticket revenue. However, they were expected to earn substantial income from match-day surpluses, local sponsorships, and hospitality (VIP boxes).

If Bangladesh’s matches are moved to Sri Lanka without being replaced in Kolkata and Mumbai, the potential ticket revenue loss could range from ₹10 crore to ₹40 crore, assuming 60–90% attendance and average ticket prices of ₹500–1,500. If replacement matches are scheduled at the same venues, the financial impact would be significantly reduced.
